Give every student a medal worth chasing

Laureatus is a rewards and target-setting system for UK secondary schools. Teachers reward a whole class in a few clicks. Students climb their year group’s medal table, chase their targets and earn places in national raffles through the year.

How Laureatus works

Every term builds towards a national raffle. Rewards and targets earn points, points earn medals, and medals decide who can win.

  1. Teachers give rewards

Your school chooses its own rewards and what each is worth. Teachers tick the students, pick a reward, and the points are added straight away.

  2. Students chase targets

Attendance and Reward Performance targets are set and assessed automatically. Add your own school targets for any group. Met earns points, smashed earns double.

  3. Medals show progress

Points earn a Bronze, Silver, Gold or Gold+ medal, measured against the student’s own year group. Medals move through the term, so there’s always a next step.

  4. The national raffle

Students in schools across the country are drawn for prizes in national raffles through the year, including at Christmas and Easter.

Medals measured against their own year group

A student only competes with the rest of their year at your school, so a Year 7 isn’t up against Year 11. Medals update as points come in, and moving up one is a target in itself.

Fewest points in the year groupMost points
  • Bronze

Everyone else, including students with no points yet. Their target is Silver.

  • Silver

The next 30% of the year group. In the draw for Silver prizes.

  • Gold

The 30% below the top. In the draw for Silver and Gold prizes.

  • Gold+

The top 10% of the year group. In the draw for every prize.

National raffles

Prizes are set for Silver, Gold and Gold+ students. A Bronze student who reaches Silver before raffle day is in the draw, which gives every student a reason to keep going right up to the end of term.

Lucky Spins and the Big 10

Students earn a Lucky Spin every time they collect a set number of points. Every spin wins extra points, and a lucky few win a place in the Big 10 draw, which is open to any medal, Bronze included.

Your own school raffles

Run a raffle in assembly or on the classroom screen, for a year group, a house or the whole school. You decide what the winner gets.

Teachers reward a whole class before the register is finished

A rewards system only works if staff use it. Laureatus takes seconds per lesson and needs no setting up.

  • Your classes are already thereClass lists come from your MIS every night, including tutor groups, year groups and houses.
  • Reward everyone at onceTick the students, or the whole class, choose a reward and issue it.
  • Targets that mostly mark themselvesAttendance and Reward Performance targets are assessed automatically. Your own targets take one click per student: missed, met or smashed.
  • Moments for the classroom screenSpin a student’s Lucky Spinner in front of the class, and arrange seating plans where each seat shows the student’s medal.
  • Messages to studentsSend everyday or urgent notices to a group’s student app, with dates for when they show.

Leaders see where rewards are going

Raise engagement across the school, check it’s fair, and justify the cost to governors.

  • Rewards analysis for every groupCompare year groups, tutor groups, houses, subjects and departments by average points per student.
  • Check rewards are shared fairlySplit any chart by gender, year group, tutor group or house.
  • Staff, subject and department statisticsSee who is giving rewards, and where, since the last national raffle.
  • Fits the way your school worksChoose your own rewards and targets, switch features on or off, and decide who can do what with roles and permissions.

Students and families follow along

Students see their progress for themselves, and parents and carers can back up the school’s targets with rewards of their own at home.

The student app

On a phone, tablet or computer, or as an Android app. Students see:

  • their medal and points total
  • their targets, and whether they’re on track
  • their recent rewards, and who gave them
  • messages from staff
  • their Lucky Spins and the next national raffle

Your school decides when the app can be used, for example only before school, at lunchtime and after school.

The home app

Parents and carers connect using a private code from the student app. They can:

  • see their child’s medal and school targets
  • promise a reward for meeting a target, and a bigger one for smashing it
  • set home targets of their own, like reading every evening
  • follow brothers and sisters from one account, even at different schools

Families don’t see points, rewards or staff messages. Staff with permission can see who is connected to a student and remove a connection.

Safeguarding comes first

Student data is a safeguarding matter, not just a compliance one. Laureatus gives your school control over who sees what, who students connect with, and when the apps can be used.

  • Only the year groups you choose

Student data comes from your MIS, and only for the year groups taking part.

  • Access by role

Teachers see their own classes. Extra access, such as statistics or managing student accounts, is given by role.

  • Families connect by private code

A parent can only connect with the student’s own code, and staff can review and remove any connection.

  • Staff approve every picture

Student avatars stay pending until a member of staff accepts them.

  • Locked-down sign-in

Staff are signed out after 30 minutes without activity, and five wrong passwords lock the login for a while.

  • You decide what’s switched on

Turn either app off, limit when students can use it, or suspend a single student from it.

About the name

Laureatus: crowned with laurel.

For more than two thousand years, a laurel wreath has meant that someone earned their place. The gold wreath at the top of this page was made in Greece over two thousand years ago.

Schools have always kept that tradition alive, with merit badges, honours boards and prize days. Laureatus brings it to every student, every week, not just the few at the top.

Questions schools ask us

How does Laureatus get our student and staff data?

Students, classes and staff are imported from your school’s management information system (MIS) every night, so class lists stay up to date as students join and leave. You choose which year groups take part.

How much work is it for teachers?

Very little. Rewarding a whole class takes a few clicks. Attendance and Reward Performance targets are assessed automatically, and school targets take one click per student during a short assessment window before each national raffle. Teachers get a reminder when the window opens.

Can we choose our own rewards and targets?

Yes. Your school sets up its own rewards, decides how many points each is worth and which staff can give them. Staff who manage targets can set targets for any group of students, due at any national raffle.

How do medals work?

Students are compared with others in their own year group at your school. The top 10% hold Gold+, the next 30% Gold, the next 30% Silver, and everyone else Bronze. Medals change as students earn points.

Who can win the national raffle?

Prizes are for Silver, Gold and Gold+ students, so a Bronze student who reaches Silver before raffle day is in the draw. Every student who wins a Big 10 place with a Lucky Spin is in the Big 10 draw, whatever their medal.

Do we have to use every feature?

No. Lucky Spins, student avatars, notifications, school raffles and seating plans can each be switched on or off. You can also turn the student app or the home app off, or limit when students can use the app.

Can we pay by invoice or purchase order?

Yes. Request an invoice and we’ll send one made out to your school, with your purchase order number if you have one.

Can we see Laureatus before we subscribe?

Yes. Book a free 30-minute video call and we’ll show you Laureatus working, from giving a reward to drawing a raffle.
